Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin was released from Cincinnati hospital a week after suffering cardiac arrest on the field against the Bengals.

“Drove home to Buffalo today with lots of love in my heart,” Hamlin tweeted. “Seeing the world gather around me on Sunday was truly an amazing feeling. The same love you all showed me is the same love I plan to give back to the world. Bigger than football!

“Grateful for the wonderful care I received at UCMC. Glad to be back in Buffalo. The doctors and nurses at Buffalo General have already made me feel at home!”

The 24-year-old collapsed during the first quarter of the Bills-Cincinnati Bengals clash on Jan. 2 following a tackle on wide receiver Tee Higgins and required CPR along with further treatment for 10 minutes before being transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was intubated and declared in critical condition.

Hamlin reportedly showed significant improvement on Thursday after opening his eyes and being able to grasp the hands of loved ones.

He has since been seen communicating with teammates via FaceTime and tweeted regularly from his hospital bed during Buffalo’s win over the New England Patriots on Sunday.

A week after a night that crippled the NFL, Hamlin was cleared to return to Buffalo.

Dr William Knight of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said: “I can confirm that he is doing well and this is the start of the next stage of his recovery.”
