Former Cincinnati offensive lineman Jake Renfro committed to Wisconsin, he announced Sunday night.
Renfro made two visits to check on the Badgers, most recently on Wednesday. The 6-foot-3, 310-pound lineman just completed an official visit to LSU.
The junior, who is expected to play at center, has 19 career starts and 21 appearances to his name. Due to a season-ending injury, Renfro missed the entire 2022 campaign.
Starting 13 games into 2021, Renfro earned All-AAC first-team honors as a sophomore. Renfro has also been a true instant impact freshman for Cincy in 2020, starting six games early. Behind Renfro’s lead, the Bearcats averaged 6.71 yards per game in 2021, which ranks them ninth in the nation. UC also finished second in the AAC in yards per carry (5.2).
Renfro, son of former Illinois offensive lineman Rick Renfro, could have up to three years of eligibility remaining. He will fill a void left by the junior center Joe Tipmanwho chose to declare for the NFL draft.
UW have now picked up six players from the transfer portal. Joining Renfro is the defensive back Jason Master (Boston College), offensive lineman Joe Huber (Cincinnati) quarterback Nick Evers (Oklahoma), defensive end Darian Varner (Temple) and quarterback Tanner Mordecai (EMS).
